How Do I Choose A College?
  1. Write Your Dream List
What is your most important factor in determining your college?
What sort of climate do you prefer?
Are you planning to live at home?
Take a close look at the curriculum.
Pay attention to the costs of living in each area.
Discuss your list with parents and counselors.
Consider having a career assessment done.
  2. Ask a Lot of Questions
    Who is teaching your classes?
Who heads the department in your major?
What do the current students have to say?
    Check out the dormitory/living conditions.
What sort of neighborhood is the college in?
What are the local community service opportunities?
What are the local religious opportunities (if you are interested)?
  3. Don't Be a Name Snob
Don't rule out a school because it is not in the Ivy League.
Make a list and give them a chance.
Do your homework on the lesser known schools offering majors of interest.
  4. Talk to the Alumni
Locate some alumni and ask them questions.
Find out from them about their time there and where it has taken them.
Ask if they are satisfied with their investment. Find out why!
  5. Visit, Visit, Visit!
There is no substitute for a personal visit.
Visit as many of your top choices as you can. It will be worth it!
